Oh, the inaugural post. Prepare to be blown away.
Last place I visited was Waukesha, WI, where my in-laws live. They live near that gigantic dairy cow in front of the Golden Guernsey Dairy. While I was there, I visited two pretty great places.
First, I made a special trip to Brookfield to visit A Gluten Free Frenzy, a gluten-free specialty food store next to the Best Buy. I really loved this place. The prices were reasonable, they actually had things on sale that were a sale price, and the cupcakes. The motherfuckin' cupcakes. Holy shit. If you can't eat gluten and you happen to be passing through Brookfield on your way to Milwaukee (they're pretty much right off of I-94), fucking stop here. Get a pumpkin cupcake. And thank me later.
Later on, I visited Good Harvest Market in Waukesha/Pewaukee near the Pick N Save. I'd never been in here, despite driving past it a great deal since it opened, since it's on the way to the in-laws. But we had to buy something for a Mother's Day luncheon, and since I'm not eating gluten, I figured my options would be better here than at Pick N Save (no offense, Pick N Save). This store too was priced nicely. I'm used to shopping at the co-op in Madison and the prices there are totally ridiculous (I'm sure they have some really great reason like living wages or whatever). I was happy to find a store like this with, much like AGFF, good prices and good sale prices as well as a great selection. Of course the best part was my husband being pissed that I didn't buy pretzels and cold-pack cheese. He's really supportive of my efforts to lead a healthier lifestyle (j/k). BUT, he can suck an egg, because it turns out his uncle was recently diagnosed as gluten-intolerant, so me going out of my way to buy gluten-free benefited more than my own GI tract. Nana nana boo boo. Stick your head in doo doo.
We also visited JoAnn Fabrics (meh) and Stein's Gardens and Gifts (pretty gnarly if you like gardens).
